Files & Backups
Download your world from BisectHosting and move it
Download your BisectHosting server from Starbase's Files tab, a backup or SFTP, then upload it to your new server and point it at your world.
BisectHosting's Starbase panel lets you download your server's files from its Files tab, as a backup, or over SFTP. Download them, then upload them to your server here. Starbase steps checked against BisectHosting's help center in October 2026. Move your server from another host has more on the upload side.
Before you start
- On the BisectHosting website, open Panels and choose Starbase. Sign in with the Starbase login BisectHosting emailed you (it's separate from the Billing panel login), or choose Login with Billing Panel, then Authorise.
- Under My Servers, select the server you're moving and Stop it.
- Minecraft Java: note the World Name shown on the panel. Your world folder has that name.
- Note the version it runs and, on Minecraft, its software (such as Paper or Fabric).
- Take a backup of your server here in Backups. Uploaded and extracted files can replace files with the same name, and the backup undoes that: How to create and restore backups.
Download from Starbase
Option 1: the Files tab
- Open the Files tab and tick the checkbox beside each file and folder you want.
- Select Download in the Actions bar. Starbase zips a multiple selection for you.
- If the download doesn't start, press Click Here.
Option 2: a full backup
- Choose Backups in the Starbase sidebar, then Configure on a backup slot.
- Name it, choose Manual and Backup all files, then click Backup.
- When it's done, choose Download on the backup (some BisectHosting pages put it under Edit), pick Download all files and press Download.
Option 3: SFTP, for big servers
- In the Files tab, select SFTP. The SFTP Details window shows the host and port together, as
address:port, so split them at the colon. - Copy the username exactly. The password is your Starbase panel password, which you can change under the Account icon > My Account > Update Password.
- Connect with WinSCP, which BisectHosting recommends on Windows, or Cyberduck on a Mac, and drag the files to your computer. Connect over SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP walks through WinSCP, using BisectHosting's details in place of ours.
A stored instance
If the files you want sit in a stored (inactive) instance:
- Stop the server, then choose Manage on the Active Instance table.
- On the stored instance, open More Options (the three dots) and choose Download.
- Choose the files and press Download. When the Download Ready notice appears, select Click Here.
Match the version here
On Minecraft, set the same software and version in the JAR Manager tab (under More) before you upload: Change Minecraft server version or loader. If it ran Spigot, pick Paper: there's no Spigot option here, and Paper runs Spigot plugins.
Don't load a Minecraft world on an older version than it last ran on. That can corrupt the save.
Upload the files here
-
Stop your server here from the Console.
-
Up to 100 MB: in the File Manager, select Upload and pick the download, then select it and choose Extract here. It opens
.zipand.tar.gzfiles. Delete the archive once its files are out. -
Over 100 MB: unpack the download on your computer and drag the files across over SFTP. Your server's login is behind the SFTP button in the File Manager. Or send the archive itself over SFTP and use Extract here on it, as long as your storage has room for the archive and its files together until you delete the archive.
-
If the files land inside a folder, select each item, choose Move to…, enter
/as the Destination folder and press Move. A move onto a name already at the top level is refused with Couldn't move this, so delete or rename that one first.
Minecraft: point the server at your world
If your World Name isn't world, your server here won't load it until you say so.
- Open the Config Editor tab. In the World section, set World folder to your World Name, then click Save changes.
- On Paper or Spigot before 26.1, keep the
<World Name>_netherand<World Name>_the_endfolders' names as they are. - Start the server. When the Console shows
Done (…s)!, join and check your builds, then share the address from Server address in the left rail.
If World folder names a folder that doesn't exist, the server generates a fresh world. Your uploaded world stays on disk: fix the name and restart.
Cancel BisectHosting last
BisectHosting's help says canceling permanently deletes a server's data. Keep your download until you're settled here.
Once your players are on the new server and the world checks out:
- In the BisectHosting Billing panel, open Services and choose the server.
- Click Cancel, pick a reason, then press Cancel Subscription. The server stays until the end of the billing period.
If something's missing
- SFTP won't connect - the address still has the colon and port on it, or the port is wrong. Use the number after the colon as the port.
- SFTP rejects the password - use your Starbase panel password. To set a new one, go to the Account icon > My Account > Update Password, or download from the Files tab or a backup instead.
- "… is over the 100 MB limit" - send that file over SFTP instead.
- A fresh world loads instead of yours - World folder doesn't match your World Name, or the world is still inside a subfolder.
Frequently asked questions
Does downloading change my BisectHosting server?
No. Downloading leaves its files in place, and the BisectHosting server stays as it is until you cancel it.
I'm moving a modpack server. What order works?
Install the same modpack from the Modpacks tab first, then upload your world and the configs you changed. A pack install replaces the world unless you tick Keep my world, settings and player lists, so doing it second can undo your upload. Install a Minecraft modpack on your server has the steps.
Can I bring a MySQL database from BisectHosting?
Plans here don't include MySQL databases, so check whether the plugin can store its data in files instead. To keep a copy anyway, open the Databases tab in Starbase, choose Edit on the database and press PhpMyAdmin, then use its Export tab.
Can I move more than one BisectHosting server?
Yes. Download each one and upload it to its own server here.
