Files & Backups
Download your world from Shockbyte and move it
Download your Shockbyte server as a backup ZIP or over SFTP, then upload it to your new server with the File Manager or SFTP and check it works.
Moving from Shockbyte means downloading your server's files from the Shockbyte Panel, then uploading them to your server here. This guide covers the Shockbyte side in full. Move your server from another host has more on uploading. Shockbyte steps checked against Shockbyte's help pages in October 2026.
Before you start
- Log in to the Shockbyte Panel with its own password, the one from Shockbyte's email. It isn't your Shockbyte client account password. If you've lost it, use Forgot Password? on the panel's login page.
- Open the server from the My Servers page and stop it before you copy anything.
- Pick the right instance. A Shockbyte server can hold up to three instances, each with its own files. If you have more than one, open the Instances tab and click Switch next to the one you're moving.
- Note the version it runs and, on Minecraft, its software (such as Paper or Fabric).
- Take a backup of your server here in Backups. Uploaded and extracted files can replace files with the same name, and the backup undoes that: How to create and restore backups.
Download your files from Shockbyte
Option 1: a backup ZIP
One ZIP of the instance you pick.
- In the Shockbyte Panel, open the Backups tab in the left sidebar.
- Choose the instance from the Instance dropdown and give the backup a Name.
- Click Create Backup. When it's ready, click Download to save the ZIP to your computer.
Option 2: SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP
Better for a big server, and you can leave out what you don't need.
- Go to Files, then SFTP Connect, to see the host, port and username. Copy the username exactly: it ends in a number that's different for every server.
- The password is your Shockbyte Panel password.
- Connect with those details in FileZilla or WinSCP. Connect over SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP walks through both apps, using Shockbyte's details in place of ours.
- You may land on a folder named like
1. Your Server's Name. Open it, select everything inside and drag it to a folder on your computer.
Download what's inside the numbered folder, not the folder itself. Otherwise everything arrives here one folder too deep.
Match the version here
On Minecraft, set the same software and version in the JAR Manager tab (under More) before you upload: Change Minecraft server version or loader. If it ran Spigot, pick Paper: there's no Spigot option here, and Paper runs Spigot plugins.
Don't load a Minecraft world on an older version than it last ran on. That can corrupt the save.
Upload the files here
-
Stop your server here from the Console.
-
Up to 100 MB: in the File Manager, select Upload and pick the ZIP. Then select it and choose Extract here, and delete the ZIP once its files are out.
-
Over 100 MB: unzip the backup on your computer and drag the files across over SFTP. Your server's login is behind the SFTP button in the File Manager. Or send the ZIP itself over SFTP and use Extract here on it, as long as your storage has room for the ZIP and its files together until you delete the ZIP.
-
If the files land inside a folder, such as
1. Your Server's Name, move each item up: select it, choose Move to…, enter/as the Destination folder and press Move. A move onto a name that's already at the top level, such as the new server's ownworld, is refused with Couldn't move this, so delete or rename that one first.
Check it works
- Start the server. On Minecraft,
Done (…s)!in the Console means it's up. - Join and check your builds, inventories and plugin or mod data.
- Share the new address from Server address in the left rail: Join your Minecraft server (and fix errors).
Cancel Shockbyte last
Keep the Shockbyte server until your players have moved and the world checks out.
Shockbyte deletes a canceled service's data, and its files can't be brought back. Keep your backup ZIP until you're settled here.
To cancel, click My Plan at the bottom left of the Shockbyte Panel, then Manage Plan under Plan Details.
If something's missing
- "… is over the 100 MB limit" - send that file over SFTP instead.
- A new world loads instead of yours - the files are still in a subfolder, or World folder in the Config Editor doesn't match your world's folder name.
- The SFTP login fails - use the Shockbyte Panel password, not the client account one, and copy the username again from SFTP Connect, numbers and all.
- Plugins or mods don't load - match the software and version in the JAR Manager.

Frequently asked questions
Does downloading change my Shockbyte server?
No. Downloading copies the files and leaves them in place, so the Shockbyte server stays as it is until you cancel it.
My Shockbyte server is suspended. Can I still get my files?
Yes, for a while. Shockbyte's help says a suspended server keeps its files, and its control panel has a Request Server Data button to download a copy. If the invoice is still unpaid after 30 days of suspension, Shockbyte deletes the server for good.
Can I bring a MySQL database from Shockbyte?
Plans here don't include MySQL databases, so check whether the plugin can store its data in files instead. To keep a copy anyway, open Databases under Server Settings in the Shockbyte Panel, click Open Database to reach phpMyAdmin, then Export with the Quick method and SQL format.
Can I move several Shockbyte servers?
Yes. Download each one, or each instance, and upload it to its own server here.
