New GameĀ 2 Minecraft server setup

Install the New Game 2 Forge pack on a Minecraft 1.20.1 server from the Modpacks tab with CurseForge's server pack, then start it and tune it.

Updated 3 min read

New Game 2 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 by Lupin and TeamLUP. Its CurseForge page describes a pack that stays close to vanilla Minecraft while adding more than 300 mods for exploration, combat and survival, and says it is meant for playing with friends. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.

Checked against New Game 2 - MC 1.20.1 - 43.2.0 (the CurseForge file dated 19 October 2026) on Forge 47.4.0 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.0. The server pack's variables.txt names both, and the panel installs that Forge build for you. The panel picks Java 17 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on its own.
  • Memory. The CurseForge page recommends at least 8 GB of RAM, and more if many players join. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans first.
  • Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 1.06 GB and unpacks to about 1.14 GB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs 43.2.0. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

In Modpacks, use the CurseForge chip and search for Adventure Without Limits. The pack's full name is New Game 2 - Enjoy An Adventure Without Limits. Check the name before you press Install: other packs, such as Project Infinity, can rank above it for this phrase, and a search for New Game 2 also brings up New Game and New Game 3, which are separate packs. The window names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. The rest of the install window (the version list, keeping your world, the backup and the EULA) is in Install a CurseForge modpack.

Warning

Use the CurseForge source for this pack. The pack's Modrinth page says some content and optimization mods cannot be added there, that FTB Quests is missing, and that server packs cannot be uploaded there.

First start

The server pack has no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the rest on that first start.

The server pack already ships 46 client-side mods with .disabled added to their file names, Embeddium and Oculus among them. Leave those alone: they are switched off on purpose.

Tune it for a server

  • Lower the view distance if the server struggles. Open Config Editor, go to Performance, change View distance (chunks) and Simulation distance (chunks), press Save changes and restart.
  • Watch the cards. The RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail show whether the plan is keeping up. Why is my server lagging has more.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. They need the same pack version, 43.2.0, and Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
  • The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Tip

New Game 3 exists as its own pack. This guide covers New Game 2 only.
