Create: Above and Beyond modpack Minecraft server

Install the Create: Above and Beyond Forge 1.16.5 modpack from the Modpacks tab using its CurseForge server files, then start and tune the Minecraft server.

Updated 3 min read

Create: Above and Beyond is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5 built around the Create mod. Its CurseForge page says about fifty inventions lie between you and the moon, and that your factory's output programs a spaceship's guidance computer. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.

Checked against Create: Above and Beyond 1.3 (the CurseForge file dated 15 December 2021) and its server pack, on Forge 36.2.20 and Minecraft 1.16.5, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge 36.2.20. The pack's repository names that Forge build in its manifest.json, and the server pack carries the matching installer. The panel switches Java for you, which is Java 8 for this version.
  • Memory. The pack's page and its server files give no figure. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. The server pack's mods folder holds 136 jar files.
  • Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 148 MB and unpacks to about 174 MB. Both sit on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so allow about 320 MB free, plus room for the libraries the Forge installer adds. The Disk Analyser tab shows what is using space.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.3. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

Press the CurseForge chip above the search box and search for Create: Above and Beyond. Press Install on the pack by simibubi. Look-alikes appear in the same results, such as Create: Above and Beyond NEW and Create: Above and Beyond, And Then Some!, so check the name and the author. The popup names Forge and Minecraft 1.16.5. If it shows Keep my world, settings and player lists, leave it unticked on a first install: when it is ticked, your existing server.properties is put back over the pack's, and the pack's one sets level-type=biomesoplenty, the Biomes O' Plenty world type the pack ships with. The install runs the Forge installer that the pack ships. The rest of the window (the version list, the backup and the EULA) is in Install a CurseForge modpack. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type.

Settings the pack sets

The pack ships its own server.properties, headed "Biomes O' Plenty Generator", and the install keeps it. It sets level-type=biomesoplenty. Leave World type alone in the Config Editor: its list has five choices (Normal, Superflat, Large biomes, Amplified and Single biome) and none of them is the Biomes O' Plenty type the pack ships with.

Other settings you may want to change in the Config Editor, then restart:

  • max-players=20 is Player slots under Players.
  • view-distance=10 is View distance (chunks) under Performance. Lower it if the server struggles.
  • motd is Server list message under World, and it starts as "An Above and Beyond Server".

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check they run Create: Above and Beyond 1.3 on Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge.
  • The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
