Dragoncraft Minecraft server setup

Install the Dragoncraft Minecraft modpack from the Modpacks tab, choose between its 1.21.1, 1.20.1 and 1.18.2 branches and size your plan's RAM.

Updated 5 min read

Dragoncraft is a modpack where you play as a dragon. The author's page lists species such as Cave, Sea, Forest and Aether dragons, customisable spells and rituals, automation, fantasy biomes, villages, and trial chambers with bosses. This guide installs it on your server from the Modpacks tab.

Checked against Dragoncraft [35.1.1] on Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge), and [5.0.2] and [4.0.8] on Forge, October 2026.

Pick the version first

Dragoncraft has three branches on CurseForge:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, the current one, with [35.1.1] released in July 2026.
  • Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, with [5.0.2].
  • Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge, with [4.0.8].

CurseForge lists dedicated server packs for older 1.18.2 files and for one 1.21.1 file, [23.0.0]. It lists none for the 1.20.1 branch, and none for 1.21.1 [24.0.0] through [35.1.1].

A default install takes [35.1.1]. With the version dropdown left on Newest that fits your server, the install takes the newest file for the window's Minecraft version. [35.1.1] has no server pack, so the window says "This version has no server pack, so the server is built from the pack's mod list. Mods that only run on players' computers are turned off." The panel reads the list and downloads the mods itself, apart from five you download yourself (below).

What it needs

  • RAM. The pack's page gives no RAM figure. Its GitHub page counts 385 mods, and our RAM calculator suggests about 14 GB for four players on a server with 150 or more mods. That is our estimate, not the author's. Pick a plan with 16 GB or more from Minecraft hosting.
  • Java. The panel picks Java 21 for Minecraft 1.21.1 and Java 17 for 1.20.1 and 1.18.2, so you do not set it.
  • The pack on every player's computer. Players install Dragoncraft from its CurseForge page.

Install it on your server

Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server, so use a new server or one you can wipe.

On the Modpacks tab, choose the CurseForge chip, search for Dragoncraft and find the row Dragoncraft by PerzVT. Click Install. The window that opens names the loader and Minecraft version it will use. Check it says NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1. To install a file other than the default, follow Install a different file below. For [35.1.1] the window lists five mods to download first: Create: Colony Logistics, Play as Ender Dragon - Dragon Survival Addon, DS Dragonborn - Cave, Forest & Sea, Easy NPC and Invisible Item Frame. Get each one with its Download from CurseForge button and drop it in the window, as Modpack mods to download from CurseForge shows, until the heading reads Every mod is ready to go in. You can tick Install without them (add them later from this tab) instead. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start by itself. The backup, the EULA box and the rest of the window are covered in Install a CurseForge modpack.

The install turns off the mods that only run on players' computers, 58 of them when this guide was checked, Wakes among them. With the five mods dropped in, our 8 GB test server then started by itself and printed Done (79.793s)!, with no step by hand.

Install a different file

The version dropdown near the top of the install window reads Newest that fits your server. It appears only where the updated installer is on, and it lists the pack's files whatever Minecraft version your server runs now. Above it, a dropdown that starts on Every Minecraft version narrows the list to one branch; left there, the list shows the newest 100 files, starting with the 1.21.1 builds. The dropdown beside that one picks the release channel and starts on Stable, which lists release files only. Press Install, pick the Minecraft version, then the file: [5.0.2] is under Minecraft 1.20.1 and [4.0.8] under Minecraft 1.18.2. Picking the Minecraft version alone is not enough: while the file dropdown still reads Newest that fits your server, the window keeps NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1.

Both older branches install on Forge and start. With [5.0.2] picked, the window reads Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1, shows the no-server-pack line and lists three mods to download: Structory, Aether Delight (A Farmer's Delight Add-on) and Towers of the Wild Modded. When this guide was checked, [5.0.2] started with Install without them ticked, after the install turned off 49 mods that only run on players' computers. [4.0.8] installed Forge 1.18.2-40.2.10, added 120 mods, turned off 16 and started.

Join the server

Share the address from the left rail (Connect to your server for the first time shows where). Players add the same Dragoncraft version in the CurseForge app, then join. Use Operators in the Players tab if you want to use commands.

Common problems

  • The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Press Download Log in the Console tab (a download icon on a phone) to read the error, then use Change plan in the Settings tab.
  • The install ends with an error. Where the updated installer is on, the Modpacks tab then shows The last install didn't finish: press Show install log to read what went wrong, then Retry install. Otherwise, read the last lines in the Console and install again. If a download failed, the console says nothing was changed.
  • You are not sure which file is installed. The Modpacks tab shows the pack name, the Minecraft version and the loader, but not the file version, so note which file you picked in the install window.
  • The Modpacks tab reads Up to date. Update to only appears when a file newer than the installed one is out for the same Minecraft version and loader, so [35.1.1], the newest, shows Up to date.
