Cave Factory Minecraft server setup

Install the Cave Factory Forge 1.16.5 pack from the Modpacks tab using CurseForge's Minecraft server files, then adjust the player limit and world settings.

Updated 3 min read

Cave Factory is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5 by naszos (Tismas). Its CurseForge page calls it a questing pack in the style of Stoneblock: you start in a room with a zombie spawner, in a world filled with stone, and make space to build a factory. The pack leans on Create, Blood Magic and Immersive Engineering. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.

Checked against Cave Factory 1.2.0 (the CurseForge file dated 29 January 2022) on Forge and Minecraft 1.16.5, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. The pack's manifest.json names Forge 36.2.23. The panel runs Minecraft 1.16.5 on Java 8 for you.
  • Memory. The CurseForge page gives no figure. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Disk space. The server files are a download of about 380 MB and unpack to about 440 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
  • The pack version. This guide installs 1.2.0, the newest Cave Factory file for 1.16.5, which has a server pack.

Install the server files

Choose the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of Modpacks, search for Cave Factory and press Install on Cave Factory. A separate pack called Cave Factory --Reimagined-- appears in the same results, so check the name. The window names Forge and Minecraft 1.16.5. Install a CurseForge modpack walks through the rest of it, including the backup and the EULA.

The pack's server files launch through a file called forge.jar, which the panel's install does not recognize as a launcher. The install then sets up Forge itself, using the build the pack's manifest.json names, 36.2.23, and the server starts on it.

First start

The quest files come with the server pack, in config/ftbquests.

Settings the pack sets

The pack ships its own server.properties, and the install keeps it. Three lines matter:

  • level-type=skyblockbuilder:custom_skyblock is what makes the world start as a stone-filled room. The Config Editor World type list offers only the vanilla types, so if you ever need to change this, edit server.properties in File Manager, and keep the value if you start a fresh world.
  • max-players=10. Raise Player slots under Players in the Config Editor for a bigger group, then restart.
  • online-mode=true, which checks players against Mojang. It shows as Online mode under Players in the Config Editor.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check that the server has finished starting, which is when the console prints a line containing For help, type, and that you share the address from the left rail under Server address.
  • The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
