Liminal Industries modpack Minecraft server

Install the Liminal Industries backrooms modpack on a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server from the Modpacks tab, with server settings and voice chat notes.

Updated 3 min read

Liminal Industries is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 by Appocryptha. Its CurseForge page puts you in the backrooms, where the way out is an automated factory built from a multi-chaptered tech tree, with trains, furniture to repurpose and sculk mobs to fight. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.

Checked against Liminal Industries 1.19.3 (the CurseForge file dated 30 December 2025) and its server files (version 2, dated 14 July 2026), on Forge 47.4.13 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.13. The server files include that Forge build. Java 17 goes with it, and the panel handles that.
  • Memory. The CurseForge page names no figure. user_jvm_args.txt holds only Forge's stock comment that 4 GB is a good default for a modded server, with the -Xmx4G line commented out, and the panel sizes the heap from your plan's RAM anyway. How much RAM a Minecraft server needs helps you pick.
  • Disk space. The server files download at about 418 MB and unpack to about 529 MB, so allow about 1 GB free during the install.
  • Players. The server installs 1.19.3, and players should run that version in the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

Press the CurseForge chip above the search box and search for Liminal Industries. Press Install on Liminal Industries by Appocryptha. Similar packs appear in the same results, such as Liminal Industries - Rescripted, Liminal Industries Acension and Liminal Industries - Oil Expansion. They are different projects, so check the name and the author. The popup names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. The version dropdown, the backup and the rest of the window are in Install a CurseForge modpack.

The server files sit inside one folder in the download, and the install moves them to the server's root. The files also carry the Forge libraries, so no loader is fetched afterwards.

First start

The pack's own eula.txt says eula=false.

Settings the pack sets

A server.properties comes inside the server files and the install does not replace it. These values are in the Config Editor:

  • difficulty=hard is Difficulty under Gameplay.
  • max-players=20 is Player slots under Players.
  • view-distance=10 and simulation-distance=10 are View distance (chunks) and Simulation distance (chunks) under Performance. Lower them if the server struggles.
  • allow-flight=true is Allow flight under Gameplay.
  • motd is Server list message under World, and it starts as "A Liminal Minecraft Server".

The 1.19.3 notes list a fix for a possible poolrooms generation bug on bigger servers.

Voice chat

The pack includes Simple Voice Chat 2.5.30. Its shipped config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties sets port=24454, and its comments say voice travels over UDP on that port, separate from the game, and that sharing the game's port is not recommended. If your plan includes extra ports, add one under Settings then Network ports, set port in that file to the new number and restart. How to add an extra port explains the card.

Common problems

  • A player gets stuck outside. They need Liminal Industries 1.19.3 on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. If that matches, compare their mod list with the server's mods folder.
  • A crash at boot. If it still crashes, the crash report names the mod: find and read a crash report.
