SteamPunk modpack Minecraft server

Install the SteamPunk [LPS] Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 modpack from the Modpacks tab using its CurseForge server pack, then start it and fix common problems.

Updated 3 min read

SteamPunk is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 from LunaPixelStudios. Its CurseForge page calls it a detailed steampunk-themed pack with more than 1000 quests, and version 19 is the Create: Post Production update. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.

Checked against SteamPunk 1.20.1 v19 (the CurseForge file dated 20 May 2026) and its server pack, on Forge 47.4.20 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.20. The server pack's variables.txt names that Forge build. Java 17 suits it, and the panel picks that itself.
  • Memory. The CurseForge page names no figure, but variables.txt asks for a 4 GB heap (-Xmx4G). The panel sets the heap from your plan's RAM instead, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs. The server pack's mods folder holds 296 jar files, plus 36 more that it ships switched off as .jar.disabled.
  • Disk space. The server pack downloads at about 947 MB and unpacks to about 1 GB, so allow about 2 GB free while the install runs.
  • Players. The server installs v19 for Minecraft 1.20.1, and players should load that same file in the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

Press the CurseForge chip above the search box and search for SteamPunk. Press Install on SteamPunk [LPS] by LunaPixelStudios. Other packs share the name, such as an older SteamPunk from 2020, so check the author.

Before you confirm, check that the popup reads Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. The pack's page also lists older Forge files for Minecraft 1.19.2, and the version in the popup decides which of them gets installed. If it names 1.19.2, cancel. If the popup offers a Pack version list, pick the v19 file there; otherwise ask support. If it offers the list and the popup already reads 1.20.1, leave the list on Newest that fits your server. The rest of the window (keeping your world, the backup and the EULA) is in Install a CurseForge modpack.

The server pack ships mods and configs but no Forge jar. The install reads variables.txt from the pack and installs the Forge build it names. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type.

Settings the pack sets

SteamPunk comes with a server.properties of its own, and the install leaves it alone. Change these in the Config Editor, then restart:

  • max-players=10 is Player slots under Players. Raise it for a bigger group.
  • motd is Server list message under World, and it starts as "A SteamPunk Server".
  • view-distance=10 is View distance (chunks) under Performance. Lower it if the server struggles.

The pack also turns on allow-flight and enable-command-block, shown as Allow flight and Command blocks under Gameplay, and sets enforce-whitelist=true with the whitelist itself off. The Players tab handles the whitelist.

Common problems

  • A player is turned away. Check they have not picked an older file from the same CurseForge page. They need v19 on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
  • A crash at boot. If it still crashes, the crash report names the mod: find and read a crash report.
