Crazy Craft Updated Minecraft server setup

Install Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.4 for Minecraft on Forge 1.16.5 from the Modpacks tab. The install turns its client-only mods off, so it starts first time.

Updated 4 min read

Crazy Craft Updated is a Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge modpack by the CurseForge author TrueRealCursed_Warrior that brings the Crazy Craft experience to 1.16.5. Its page says it is not an official port of Crazy Craft, and that it uses Chaos Awakens, an OreSpawn remake, for the original Crazy Craft feel. The page lists 250+ mods, 100+ new biomes, 500+ new creatures, 300+ new structures and 5+ new dimensions. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's CurseForge server pack.

Checked against Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.4 on Forge 36.2.35 and Minecraft 1.16.5, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge 36.2.35. The server pack brings its own Forge 36.2.35. Minecraft 1.16.5 runs on Java 8, which the panel picks for you.
  • Memory. The pack's page gives no RAM figure. On our 8 GB test servers the RAM card on the Console tab read between about 3.9 and 4.5 GB within ten minutes of the first start, with nobody online. See how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans. The page points players with slower computers to Crazy Craft Updated Lite by the same author.
  • Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 750 MB, and the installed server took about 800 MB on our test server. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
  • A beta pack. The page says the pack is still in beta, at version 0.x, so an update may change a lot. Take a backup before you install a newer version.

Install the server

  1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  2. Press the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab, then search for Crazy Craft Updated.
  3. Press Install on the row named Crazy Craft Updated by TrueRealCursed_Warrior. A popup titled Install Crazy Craft Updated? opens and names Forge and Minecraft 1.16.5.
  4. Leave the version list on Newest that fits your server. It installs 0.13.4's server pack.
  5. Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's.
  6. Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.

Client-only mods

The server pack includes 5 mods that only run on players' computers: Enhanced Boss Bars, Advancement Plaques, Highlighter, Prism and Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded. The install turns them off by renaming each jar to end in .disabled. Open Mods under Content and choose Installed to see them with a Disabled badge and an Enable button. Leave them off on the server. Players keep them on their own computers.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. If the server has not accepted the Minecraft EULA yet, a popup titled Accept the Minecraft EULA opens: press Accept & start. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type; on our test servers that took two to three minutes. Your address is in the left rail. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft, and joining a modded server from a launcher covers the client side.

The server pack also holds an Instructions.txt that says to run start.bat and edit eula.txt by hand. You can skip it: the panel starts the server itself, and the EULA popup writes eula.txt for you.

Players install Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.4, the same version as the server, from the pack's CurseForge page.

Common problems

  • The install window says "The backup didn't start, so nothing was changed". The window stays open, and the alert under that title gives the reason. If it is the game panel's limit on backups in 10 minutes, wait as long as it says, then hold Install and reinstall again. If every backup is protected or you are at your backup limit, open the Backups tab and delete a backup you no longer need, or remove the protection from one. Only the newest install backup stays protected: taking the next one lifts the protection from the earlier ones, so installs in a row no longer fill the slots. A backup you protected yourself keeps its protection. You can also untick Take a backup first and install without one, unless the window shows a note about your world: then the backup is required.
  • The server stops with an out-of-memory error. Move to a bigger plan with Change plan in the Settings tab.
  • The server stops before it finishes starting for another reason. Read the first error in the Console. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Warning

Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if you may want your old world back.
