Minecraft: Life in the villageĀ 3 and Industrial Village

Set up a Life in the village 3 or Industrial Village modpack server on Minecraft: Forge versions, disk sizes, search terms and settings for both.

Updated 5 min read

Life in the village 3 is a Forge modpack by dreams01, built around the MineColonies town-building mod. The author calls it a "Vanilla+" pack: it keeps close to vanilla play and adds colonies, quests, new villagers and structures, and Create machines. It is the sequel to Life in the village 2 for newer Minecraft versions. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.

This guide also covers Industrial Village, a second dreams01 Forge modpack that shares the same base and the same server steps. Lines marked "both packs" apply to each, and the Industrial Village details are in their own section.

Checked against Life in the village 3 version 2.10 (the CurseForge file dated 2 December 2024) and its server pack, on Forge 43.3.2 and Minecraft 1.19.2, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge. The pack's manifest.json names Forge 43.3.2. The panel switches Java for you, which is Java 17 for this version. The project also holds older 1.18.2 builds, so check that the install popup names Minecraft 1.19.2.
  • Memory (both packs). The CurseForge page gives no figure. The server pack's own user_jvm_args.txt sets a 6 GB heap, but the panel does not read that file. It sizes the heap from your plan's RAM at every start. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 565 MB and unpacks to about 662 MB. Both sit on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so allow about 1.2 GB free. The download is deleted afterwards, and your world grows on top. The Disk Analyser tab shows what is using space. This holds for both packs, and Industrial Village's own sizes are in its section.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs 2.10. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

In Modpacks, pick the CurseForge chip, search for Life in the village 3 and press Install on Life in the village 3. Searches for the series list the other packs, such as Life in the village 4 and Life in the village 2, so check the number. The window names Forge and Minecraft 1.19.2. Install a CurseForge modpack explains the rest of it, from the version list to the backup and the EULA. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type. The same steps apply to Industrial Village, with its own search term below.

The server pack's files sit inside one folder in the download, and the install moves them to the server's root. This is the same for both packs.

Settings the pack sets

The pack ships its own server.properties, and the install keeps it. This holds for both packs. Open the Config Editor to change these:

  • max-players=5 is Player slots under Players. Raise it for a bigger group, then restart. Both packs set 5.
  • view-distance=7 and simulation-distance=10 are View distance (chunks) and Simulation distance (chunks) under Performance. Lower them if the server struggles. Industrial Village also sets simulation-distance=10, but its view-distance differs, as its section shows.
  • motd is Server list message under World, and it starts as "Life in the Village 3 Server".

The pack uses the Open Parties and Claims mod for chunk claims, and so does Industrial Village. Its defaults in the pack are 50 claimed chunks per player (maxPlayerClaims) and 10 force-loaded chunks (maxPlayerClaimForceloads). The pack author's wiki says the live file for an existing world is serverconfig/openpartiesandclaims-server.toml inside the world folder, edited while the server is stopped. In this pack the world folder is world, and it is the same in Industrial Village.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check they run Life in the village 3 version 2.10 on Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge.
  • The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault. This applies to both packs.

Industrial Village

Industrial Village is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 by dreams01. It is built around Immersive Engineering and MineColonies: you work up a tech tree while managing a colony of citizens who build for you. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge, in the same way as Life in the village 3.

Checked against Industrial Village 1.12 (the CurseForge file dated 16 December 2025) and its server pack, on Forge 47.4.0 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.

What Industrial Village needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. The pack's manifest.json names Forge 47.4.0. The panel switches Java for you, which is Java 17 for this version.
  • Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 571 MB and unpacks to about 678 MB. Both sit on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so allow about 1.25 GB free. The download is deleted afterwards, and your world grows on top.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.12. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.

Install Industrial Village

Use the CurseForge chip in Modpacks, search for Industrial Village and press Install on Industrial Village. Similar packs appear in the same results, such as Life in the Industrial Village and Create Industrial Village, so check the name and the author. The window names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. The version list, the world and backup options and the EULA tick are in Install a CurseForge modpack. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type.

Settings Industrial Village sets

Its shipped server.properties differs from Life in the village 3 in these places:

  • view-distance=10 is View distance (chunks) under Performance. simulation-distance=10 is the same as Life in the village 3.
  • motd starts as "Industrial Village Server".
  • Open Parties and Claims defaults are 50 claimed chunks per player (maxPlayerClaims) and 4 force-loaded chunks (maxPlayerClaimForceloads).

Industrial Village common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check they run Industrial Village 1.12 on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
