Chosen's Modded Adventure modpack Minecraft server

Install Chosen's Modded Adventure on a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server from the Modpacks tab using the author's CurseForge server files.

Updated 3 min read

Chosen's Modded Adventure is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack by the CurseForge author ChosenArchitect. Its page describes a sandbox of magic, technology and building, with Ars Nouveau and Create among the mods, and quests to follow. The author publishes server files for it, and the Modpacks tab installs them for you.

Checked against Chosen's Modded Adventure 0.9.2 (the CurseForge file dated 3 May 2024) on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.2.30, the version its server script names, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Game and loader. Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.2.30 and Java 17, all named by the server files' start script. The panel picks Java 17 itself.
  • Memory. ChosenArchitect's page gives no RAM figure. The bundled user_jvm_args.txt sets a 4 GB minimum and 6 GB maximum heap, with a comment calling 4 GB a good default for a modded server, but the panel sizes the heap from your plan instead. How much RAM a Minecraft server needs helps you judge it.
  • Disk space. About 451 MB to download and about 512 MB unpacked.
  • Players. Everyone joining installs 0.9.2 from the CurseForge app.

Install the server

On the Modpacks tab, choose the CurseForge chip and search for Chosen's Modded Adventure. Pick Chosen's Modded Adventure, not Chosen's Modded Adventure: Chunk by Chunk, which is a separate pack. The popup names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. For the version list, the backup and the EULA, see Install a CurseForge modpack.

The pack's files sit inside one folder named CMA Server Files 0.9.2, and the install moves them up to the server's main folder, leaving an empty folder of that name behind.

The server files carry no Forge libraries, so the installer sets up Forge for 1.20.1 itself. It installs 47.2.30, the build the pack names, and the console bar shows Installing Forge 1.20.1-47.2.30 (the version the pack was made on, from CurseForge) for about 15 to 26 seconds while it works. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type. Joining a modded server from a launcher covers the client side.

Settings the pack's script sets

The pack's own startserver.sh writes allow-flight=true and max-tick-time=180000 into a new server.properties. Our launch does not run that script, so set them yourself in Config Editor: Allow flight and Watchdog timeout (ms). The install already creates server.properties, so open Config Editor once it finishes, change the two options, then press Save changes in each section (or use the save bar that appears), and restart. The watchdog is 60000 by default.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. First confirm the server has finished starting, meaning the console has printed a line containing For help, type, and that you shared the address from the left rail. If the server never gets that far and crashes, the crash report names the mod: find and read a crash report.
