Settings not applying?

Work down this list. One of these is almost always why a change does not stick.

  1. Edit the right file. The server reads Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini (WindowsServer on Windows). DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini in the server folder is only a template, so changes there do nothing. The file appears after the server's first start.
  2. Stop the server first. Settings are read on start: stop the server, save the file, then start it again.
  3. Keep it to one line. Everything goes on a single OptionSettings=(...) line under the [/Script/Pal.PalGameWorldSettings] header. A typo or a missing comma makes the game fall back to its defaults without an error.
  4. Look for WorldOption.sav. A WorldOption.sav in the world's save folder (Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world ID>/) overrides the .ini. Back it up, delete it and restart.
  5. Check panel-managed keys. Many hosts, ours included, write the server name, passwords and player limit from their startup settings on every boot. Change those there, not in the file.
