On a plain Minecraft server the built-in /tp command is for operators only. EssentialsX adds teleport requests, homes, warps and /back, and lets you decide who can use each one. This guide covers just those commands: the permissions to hand out, and the settings that limit them.
Checked against EssentialsX 2.22.0, the newest release on Modrinth in October 2026. It lists Minecraft up to 26.1.2 and has not been tested on 26.3.
Operators already have /tp
Operators can use the game's own command on any software, with no plugin. Run these in the game, or add a player name first to move that player:
tp Alex
tp 100 70 -200
tp Steve AlexThe first moves you to Alex, the second to a position, and the third moves Steve to Alex. Make someone an operator from the Players tab: open Operators and press Make operator. Whitelist players and set operators has the steps.
For commands that ordinary players can run, install EssentialsX on Paper or Purpur. Set up EssentialsX on your Minecraft server covers the install from the Plugins tab. It is a Paper and Purpur plugin, so it will not load on Fabric, Forge or NeoForge. The mod equivalent is in FTB Essentials homes and warps on Minecraft.
The player commands
Let players use them
EssentialsX sets no default for these permissions, and Paper treats a permission with no default as operators only, so ordinary players need the permission for each command they should have. With LuckPerms, grant them to the default group from the Console:
lp group default permission set essentials.sethome true
lp group default permission set essentials.home true
lp group default permission set essentials.delhome true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpa true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpahere true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpaccept true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpdeny true
lp group default permission set essentials.tpacancel true
lp group default permission set essentials.back true
lp group default permission set essentials.warp trueSet up LuckPerms on your Minecraft server explains groups. Leave out any line for a command you want to keep to operators.
Settings that limit teleporting
Open plugins/Essentials/config.yml in the File Manager, change the value, save, then restart from the Console tab.
teleport-delayis the wait in seconds before a teleport happens. It starts at0. If the player moves or is attacked during the wait, the teleport is canceled.teleport-cooldownis the wait in seconds between teleport commands. It starts at0.tpa-accept-cancellationis how long a request lasts, in seconds. It starts at120.tpa-max-requestsis how many requests can wait on one player. It starts at5.sethome-multiplesets how many homes each rank gets. It listsdefault: 3,vip: 5andstaff: 10. A player also needsessentials.sethome.multiple, and for a named rank the matchingessentials.sethome.multiple.vip. Without the first permission a player has one home.
If a command does nothing
- "You do not have access to that command." The player is missing the permission above. Check it with
lp user <name> permission check essentials.homein the Console. /tpagoes nowhere. The other player must run/tpacceptwithin the time set bytpa-accept-cancellation.- EssentialsX does not load. Release 2.22.0 is the newest and lists Minecraft versions up to 26.1.2, so on a newer version check the Modrinth page for a newer build.
To stop players teleporting to each other on demand, leave out the essentials.tpa and essentials.tpahere lines. They can still use /home and /warp.
