SevTech: Ages Minecraft server setup

Install SevTech: Ages on Minecraft Forge 1.12.2 from the Modpacks tab, keep its quark_realistic world type, and learn how player progression works on a server.

Updated 3 min read

SevTech: Ages is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 by darkosto. You start with almost nothing and work through the vanilla advancement system, unlocking new ages, mods, items and recipes as you go, from the stone age to space. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.

Checked against SevTech: Ages 3.2.3 on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860. The server files carry a Forge installer, and the install runs it. The panel chooses the Java version from the pack's Minecraft version and runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8, so there is nothing to set.
  • Memory. The pack's server readme recommends 4 GB as the minimum. It says the pack runs on 2 GB but not ideally, and that the server uses a fair amount of RAM and is taxing on the CPU. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Disk space. The server files are a download of about 350 MB and unpack to about 384 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs SevTech: Ages 3.2.3. Players should run that version.

Install the server files

On the Modpacks tab, press the CurseForge chip, then search for SevTech Ages. Press Install on SevTech: Ages. SevTech: Ages of the Sky is a different pack in the same results, so check the name. The popup should read Forge, Minecraft 1.12.2, and the pack's world replaces your current one. The rest of the window (the backup, the held install button and the EULA box) is in Install a CurseForge modpack.

The pack's own Install.sh, ServerStart.sh and settings.sh are not used, and neither is the 4 GB memory setting in settings.sh. The panel writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan's RAM, so changing your plan needs no reinstall.

First start

The pack has 259 mod files and many config and script files.

The pack's page suggests the quark_realistic world type, and the server files already set level-type=quark_realistic in server.properties. The Config Editor lists only the vanilla world types under World type, so if you ever need to change that line, edit server.properties in File Manager instead. The world type only applies when a world is first created.

How progression works on a server

The pack's page says every progression point is tied to the player, not the server. Someone who joins late is not left behind by players who started earlier. The pack also includes the Together Forever mod, which lets players form teams and sync their progression. The pack's page says a new world starts with no map, no HWYLA overlay and only a handful of items and recipes, and the rest unlock as players advance.
