Glacial Awakening is a Forge questing modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 by Dark_Arcana. Its CurseForge page has you wake in a pitch-black 3x3 chamber deep inside a glacier, with limited space and resources like a skyblock, before a guided progression through an endless expanse of ice and snow. Mods named on the page include Pyrotech, Roots 3, Astral Sorcery, Ender IO, Mekanism and NuclearCraft. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Glacial Awakening 1.2.3 (the CurseForge file dated 4 August 2024) on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860. The server files include
forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860-installer.jar, and the panel runs that installer for you. It runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8, chosen for you. - Memory. The CurseForge page gives no figure. The server files'
settings.cfgsetsMAX_RAM=5Gfor the pack's own launcher, but the panel writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan, so that value is not used. It does hint at what the author expects, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. - Disk space. The server files are a download of about 174 MB and unpack to about 198 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.2.3. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
In Modpacks, choose the CurseForge chip, search for Glacial Awakening and press Install on Glacial Awakening. The window names Forge and Minecraft 1.12.2. The version list, the backup and the EULA tick are in Install a CurseForge modpack. Then press Start on the Console and wait for For help, type.
The server files sit inside one folder, Glacial-Awakening-1.2.3-server. The install moves everything up to the server's root and runs the Forge installer. The pack's ServerStart.sh, ServerStart.bat and settings.cfg are for running the pack yourself and are not used here.
Keep the world generator setting
The pack ships its own server.properties with generator-settings={"Topography-Preset":"Standard"}. The pack's worldgen troubleshooting note says this line must be in server.properties for the custom Glacial Awakening world generation to work, and that the included file already has it. The Config Editor does not list this key and leaves it untouched when you save. Do not delete it. To check it, open server.properties in File Manager.
Give each player their own box
The pack's island note says there is no automated way to create starting boxes. Its suggestion is a command block at spawn running /topography island home @p, which gives each player a box of their own. Players can invite others to their team with /topography island invite <name>.
The pack's own server.properties already sets enable-command-block=true, so Command blocks under Gameplay in the Config Editor is already on. Make yourself an operator on the Players tab (Operators, then Make operator) before you place the block.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run Glacial Awakening 1.2.3 on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
- The world does not look like the pack's. Check the
generator-settingsline above is still inserver.properties. - The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
