A seed decides how Terraria builds a new world. Besides a plain number or word, the game has named special seeds such as Not the Bees and secret seeds you unlock by typing their text. This guide shows how to make a seeded world on your server from the Worlds tab, how to bring in a world with several seeds combined, and lists the special seed texts.
Checked against the Terraria wiki's world seed pages and TShock 6.2.1 for Terraria 1.4.5.8, October 2026.
Make a seeded world in the Worlds tab
- Open your server's Worlds tab and press New world.
- Type a Name of up to 20 letters, numbers, dashes and underscores, and pick a Size and Difficulty.
- Type the seed into Seed (optional): a number, a word, or one special seed's text from the table below, such as
skyblock. - Press Use it on the next start, then restart the server. It builds the world as it starts, which takes a minute or two, and your other worlds stay.
A world made from a special seed can report its seed as a code and a random number rather than the text you typed (TShock's /worldinfo shows it). That's normal: the special seed was still used.
Combined and secret seeds: make the world on your PC
The seed box takes one special seed, and no secret seeds. For several special seeds at once, or a secret seed, make the world in Terraria on your PC and upload it.
- Start Terraria on your PC at the same version as your server. TShock 6.2.1 is built for Terraria 1.4.5.8, so that is the version to use.
- Create a new world. In the world creation screen, press the seed icon beside the World Seed box to open the Seed Menu and switch on every seed you want. A secret seed's code goes in the World Seed box first.
- Give the world a name of up to 20 letters, numbers, dashes and underscores. The file name becomes your server's World name.
- Finish creating the world, quit Terraria and upload the
.wldfile with the World Import tab. Upload a Terraria world to your server has every step, including where the file is on your PC. - Start the server. The world marked Loads on start in the Worlds tab is the one it opens.
Our code installs the uploaded .wld as it is: it renames the file from the upload folder into the world folder and sets World name to match, and it doesn't rebuild the world (lib/terraria/world-import.ts).
The official Terraria wiki says the game ignores capital letters, spaces and punctuation when it reads a secret seed, so beammeup and Beam Me Up unlock the same seed.
Check your server software
The Server software card on the Startup tab shows whether you run TShock or tModLoader. The seed combinations and the Skyblock seed arrived in Terraria 1.4.5.0. TShock 6.2.1 is built for Terraria 1.4.5.8, but tModLoader's current stable builds are still based on Terraria 1.4.4, so those two are only available on TShock.
Special seeds
The official Terraria wiki lists these special seed texts and what each seed does. Re-Logic's own changelogs also name the Skyblock, Remix, Zenith, No Traps and The Constant seeds.
According to the wiki's Secret world seeds page, secret seeds include beam me up and waterpark. The Worlds tab's seed box takes a secret seed's code as an ordinary seed and leaves the secret seed off (our test, 31 October 2026), so make a secret-seed world on your PC with the steps above. Seed texts are version-sensitive, so check the wiki before you rely on one.
Combine several seeds
The official Terraria wiki says typing a code into the seed box turns on one special seed only, and typing a second code switches the first off. Combining seeds is done in the Seed Menu beside the World Seed box, so make a combined world on your PC with the steps above.
For a world floating in the sky, see Create a Skyblock Terraria server.
If the seed didn't take
- The world looks ordinary. Check the Worlds tab: the world marked Loads on start is the one the server opens. If it isn't the new or uploaded one, press Switch to on its row and restart. A seed only shapes a world when it's built, so typing one for a world that already exists changes nothing.
- Your old world seems gone. A world with the same name already on the server is kept and renamed with
pre-importand the date in its file name, never overwritten. Look for it in File Manager. - Skyblock does nothing on tModLoader. The seed arrived in Terraria 1.4.5.0 and tModLoader's current builds are based on 1.4.4, so run TShock for it.
- Friends can't join. The server and their game must be the same version. How to join your Terraria server covers it.
