Table of contents
Awakening is a Palworld 1.0 mechanic that permanently strengthens a Pal. You craft an Awakening Crystal from Radiant Gems and World Tree Holy Water, then use it on a Pal of the matching element. This guide covers the materials, the crafting and what the sources do and do not say about the result.
Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026), October 2026.
What awakening does
Pocketpair's 1.0 notes introduce Awakening as a new mechanic that "lets you strengthen your Pals even further", and say you gather Radiant Gems in the World Tree and use them on your favorite Pals "to awaken their hidden true power".
The wiki says an Awakening Crystal "permanently" raises a Pal's base Health, Attack and Defense. paldb.cc agrees that awakening increases hitpoints, attack and defense, and adds that some Pals' Partner Skills grant extra benefits when awakened. Neither site gives the size of the increase in a form we can confirm, so this guide quotes no numbers. Pocketpair's notes also say the Pal status screen now shows the bonus values from Souls and Awakening.
What you need
There is a crystal for each of nine elements: Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fire, Grass, Ground, Ice, Neutral and Water. The wiki says each crystal is used on Pals of its own element. Each crystal costs:
- 50 Radiant Gems of the same element
- 10 World Tree Holy Water
Both the wiki and paldb.cc list that recipe, and both say it is made at the Ancient Workbench. The wiki lists a work amount of 300 for it.
Radiant Gems and World Tree Holy Water have their own sources, covered in Where to get Radiant Gems in Palworld.
Awaken a Pal
- Pick the Pal and note its element.
- Gather 50 Radiant Gems of that element and 10 World Tree Holy Water.
- Craft the matching Awakening Crystal at the Ancient Workbench.
- Use the crystal on the Pal.
The wiki and paldb.cc do not describe the menu steps for the last step, so follow the in-game prompt. The wiki also does not say whether a Pal can be awakened more than once.
A crystal only works on Pals of its own element. A Fire Awakening Crystal is for Fire Pals, so check a Pal's element before you spend 50 gems on a crystal.
On a hosted server
Awakening is part of the base game, so your server needs no mod for it. The World Settings tab has no awakening settings and nothing in it changes the crystal recipe. For the rates it does control, see Palworld server settings explained.
